Cambodia Lost City Archaeologists in Cambodia have discovered numerous medieval cities in the Angkor region, some as large as Phnom Penh, challenging assumptions about the history of south-east Asia. A Lost Ancient City Found In Jungle of Cambodia has been discovered, An ancient city lost for 1200 years has been discovered in the Cambodian jungle by archaeologists using laser scanning technology to find the lost metropolis of Mahendraparvata. The lost city is linked to the temples of Angkor in Cambodia. The discovery was announced in a peer-reviewed paper released by the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The laser technology, known as lidar, works by shooting lasers from a aircraft towards the jungle which then bounces off of the surrounding area and back to the aircraft. These pulses give measurements that can then be processed and turned in to a map of the jungle revealing in this case roads, canals and temples.
